Introduction to the case history and properly performed physical assessment of the client/patient.
It will allow the Practitioner to gain an insight as to whether various organs or organ systems are functioning normally or abnormally. At the same time, it should provide insight into the client/patient as a unique and individual person.
It is important to understand the physiologic mechanisms responsible for normal functions before the Practitioner can accurately interpret the disturbed functions that result from disease.
When coupled with the assessment, the history will enable him/her to have reasonably accurate impressions of the possible causes of any given illness.
Discussion of disease is intentionally minimized as a thorough concept of the normal is essential to the appreciation of the abnormal.
